What is Goatscaping?

Goatscaping is an environmentally friendly way to naturally clear vegetation in place of using herbicides and machinery. Goats are brought onto a property to eat weeds, brush, invasive plants, blackberry brambles, ivy, tall grasses, and even small saplings.

Why Choose Goats?

Goats are highly effective at clearing vegetation in areas where traditional equipment is difficult or impractical to use.

They are especially well-suited for:

  • Steep slopes and hard-to-access terrain

  • Wildfire fuel reduction and prevention

  • Invasive plant and weed control

  • Reclaiming overgrown pastures, trails, and fence lines

  • Eco-friendly land management projects

Unlike traditional grazing animals, goats are browsers, meaning they prefer shrubs, leaves, vines, and woody vegetation over grass. This makes them exceptionally effective at clearing dense brush and unwanted growth.

What's Included in a Goatscaping Service?

Every project includes:

  • A site assessment and project consultation

  • A herd of trained vegetation-management goats

  • Water and shelter setup

  • Ongoing herd monitoring and management

  • An experienced handler

Benefits of Goatscaping

Zero Emissions

Goats eliminate the need for fuel-burning, gas-powered equipment, reducing your carbon footprint.

Minimal Soil Damage

Because of their lightweight build and small cloven hooves, goats apply far less pressure to the ground than heavy machinery.

Access to Difficult Terrain

They are expert climbers, easily navigating rocky, steep, or uneven terrain.

Natural Fertilizer

As they graze, they naturally enrich the soil with nitrogen-rich droppings.

Effective Weed Control

Goats have multi-chambered stomachs, meaning they eat invasive weeds and seeds and break them down so they cannot re-germinate

Our Commitment to Animal Health & Biosecurity

The goats at Cresta Roca Farm are tested annually for CAE and Johne's Disease. We maintain strict biosecurity protocols to ensure the health and safety of our herd and your property. As part of these precautions, our goats cannot co-mingle with other livestock or graze on active livestock pastures.
